1.WHAT ABOUT AI IN UKRAINE’S WAR FIELD?
The conflict in Ukraine is currently the largest-ever testing ground for artificial intelligence-
powered autonomous and uncrewed vehicles. Although using military robots is nothing
new—remote-controlled war machines were created during World War II—what we are witnessing
in Ukraine is the proliferation of a new type of combat vehicle. Attack drones that are entirely
autonomous have just been launched by the US.
2.WHY AUTONOMOUS AND UNMANNED VEHICLES ARE NOT THE SAME?
Unmanned vehicles and autonomous vehicles are not usually synonymous. The majority of
uncrewed, or human-free, vehicles are autonomous; nevertheless, many of them can only be
operated remotely by people. Perhaps most importantly, several of these vehicles have never been
utilised in combat.
3.HOW THIS VEHICLES ARE UNLIKED?
It’s important to understand that this is not a mechanical conflict. Autonomous or unmanned
weapons and vehicles are unlikely to have a substantial impact on the battle due to their
inexperience and current level of dependability.
However, when it comes to using UGVs to augment our current forces or to replace crewed aerial
and surface recon vehicles with robots, military authorities are excited about the possible
application of AI. What we are presently seeing in the situation in Ukraine is the most likely
technological future.
